West falls in Lobster Bowl

Despite a pair of touchdowns from former South Portland High star Ryan Curit, the West team lost Saturday’s Maine Shrine Lobster Bowl Classic, 40-35. The East won for the fourth time in five seasons, thanks to a 21-point outburst in the final period, which erased a nine-point deficit. Cape Elizabeth defensive back Tommy Foden, Scarborough offensive lineman Luke Bogdanovich and South Portland wide receiver Mike Foley also participated. Cape Elizabeth’s Aaron Filieo and South Portland’s Steve Stinson served as West assistant coaches. Scarborough’s Shelby Dahms was on the West cheerleading squad.

Southern Maine Flame tryouts

The Southern Maine Flame ASA softball team will hold tryouts for its U-16 and U-18 squads Wednesday, Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. and Saturday, Aug. 14 at 9 a.m., at Wainwright Field in South Portland.
