SP first-day practice schedule

The fall sports season begins Monday at South Portland High School. Football (grades 10-12) meets from 7 to 10 a.m. on the high school practice field. Boys’ soccer convenes at 8:45 a.m. at Wainwright Field Complex. Girls’ soccer meets at the same place at 9 a.m. Field hockey starts at 2:15 p.m., on the high school field. Boys’ cross country meets at 8 a.m., on the track. Girls’ cross country meets in the same place at 8:30 a.m. Cheering goes from 9 to 11 a.m., on the track. FMI, 767-7705.

Southern Maine Flame tryouts

LaxPros wins Elite League title outscored Shays Grill Pub, 13-8, to win the 2010 Men’s Elite Lacrosse League title last week. Russell Halliday had six goals and an assist and Greg Smith made 14 saves. Mike Holden had three goals in defeat.

Frozen Ropes tryouts

The Frozen Ropes Baseball and Softball Training Center will be conducting tryouts for their Jr. Black Bear 12U, 14U, 16U and 18U travel softball teams on Sunday, Aug. 22. Casco Bay Sports has openings for several fall sports leagues. Outdoor soccer has an 11 v 11 Sunday league, beginning Sept. 12 and a Monday 6 v 6 league, starting Sept. 20. Coed flag football starts Sept. 12. Coed frostbite softball begins Sept. 12. Basketball features a Tuesday competitive league, beginning Sept. 14, a Thursday all-ability league, starting Sept. 16 and a Sunday all-ability league, beginning Oct. 3.
