SMCC men start second semester on a high note

The Southern Maine Community College men’s basketball team opened the new year with a pair of home victories, 79-68, over Northern Essex and 102-82 over St. Joseph’s of Vermont. In the first win, Edwin Gonzalez went off for 24 points. Tyheem Simon had 18 points against St. Joe’s. The Seawolves (14-2 overall, 9-0 in the Yankee Small College Conference) hosted U. Maine-Augusta Wednesday, welcome Eastern Maine CC Saturday and play host to Northern Maine CC Sunday and Monday. The women fell to 9-7 (6-3 in conference) after home losses to Briarcliffe of New York (84-83) and St. Joe’s of Vermont (71-58). Amira Jones had 22 points versus Briarcliffe and finished with 13 against St. Joe’s. SMCC was home against U. Maine-Augusta Wednesday, hosts Eastern Maine CC Saturday and welcomes CCRI Sunday.

Western Maine umpire classes upcoming
