Local runners compete at New Englands

South Portland’s Nyajock Pan was the top local finisher at Saturday’s New England cross country championships in Thetford, Vt. Pan completed the 5-kilometer course in 21 minutes, 27.8 seconds, good for 67th place in the girls’ race. Cape Elizabeth’s Rachel Nichols (89th, 21:43.8), Kelsey Barton (116th, 22:09.7), Catherine Tierney (133rd, 22:17.7), Emma Inhorn (183rd, 23:08.4), Emily Lobosco (195th, 23:21.9), Dana Hatton (204th, 23:40.3) and Natalie Rand (220th, 24:00) also took part. The Capers were 19th out of 30 teams. On the boys’ side, Scarborough’s Nick Morris was 98th (18:20.9). Zach Brown (120th, 18:31.7), Tom Hague (167th, 19:02.9), Robby Hall (175th, 19:06.1), Ethan Law (222nd, 19:37.2), Ian Morris (228th, 19:43.2) and Wout Moulin (244th, 20:12.6) also took part as the Red Storm placed 21st as a team. Cape Elizabeth came in 26th behind Leo Ledman (169th, 19:04.4), Reid Douty (171st, 19:05.1), Peter Doane (219th, 19:32.3), Paul Trantina (240th, 20:03.3), Julian Pelzer (250th, 20:27.1) and Liam Simpson (256th, 20:38.6).

McAuley basketball clinic upcoming

The McAuley girls’ basketball program, under the direction of new coach Amy Vachon, will host a three-week clinic in December. On Dec. 4, 11 and 18 there will be 45 minutes of drills and fundamentals followed by 45 minutes of games. Girls in grades 3 to 5 go from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Girls in grades 6 to 8 go from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The cost is $15 per week or $40 for three weeks. Furbush holding pitching class at Frozen Ropes

Former South Portland High School standout and current professional baseball player Charlie Furbush will conduct a pitching class for ages 8 to 12 at Frozen Ropes on Saturday, Dec. 4, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. The cost is $30 for members, $40 for non-members. Frozen Ropes expects to hold a session for ages 13 to 18 as well. FMI, frozenropes.com.

November/December offerings at Casco Bay Sports

Casco Bay Sports is holding several leagues this fall. A Sunday night co-ed basketball league and Wednesday co-ed dodgeball are underway. Sunday night co-ed indoor soccer starts Nov. 21. Tuesday and Thursday dodgeball gets underway Not. 29. An indoor softball league on Wednesday evenings beginning Dec. 1 at YourSpace in Gorham. Sunday co-ed floor hockey starts Dec. 5 at the Riverton Community Center in Portland.
