SMCC hoops season winding down

The Southern Maine Community College men’s basketball team bounced back from a rare loss by beating visiting New Hampshire Technical Institute (92-63) and host U. Maine-Machias (74-59) last week to improve to 19-2 (13-0 in the Yankee Small College Conference). Carlos Gonzalez led the way with 31 points against NHTI. Atencio Martin had a team-high 16 at UMM. The Seawolves women made it five wins in a row after handling visiting NHTI (66-55) and host UMM (79-28) last week. Alicia Hoyt led the way with 17 points versus NHTI. Kendra Kagiliery had a team-high 16 in the win over UMM. After hosting rival Central Maine CC Wednesday, SMCC closes the regular season at Vermont Tech Saturday. The YSCC tournament begins Feb. 20.
