SMCC fall season continues

Southern Maine Community College’s fall sports season produced more highlights last week. Men’s soccer improved to 4-2 (4-0 in the Yankee Small College Conference) with a 2-0 home win over New Hampshire Technical Institute Saturday. Blais Whitney and Kyle Ehlers had the goals. Jon Coyne and Peter Dore had assists. The Seawolves were at Eastern Maine CC Thursday.

The women’s squad also blanked NHTI Saturday, 5-0, and is now 2-1. Cady Gagnon scored twice, while Callie Day made 12 saves. SMCC was at EMCC Thursday.

The baseball team swept a doubleheader from NHTI Saturday, 8-4 and 8-3. Mustafa Jamel threw a complete game victory in the first game. Mike Vadnais did the same in the nightcap. The Seawolves improved to 6-0 and visited Bridgton Academy Wednesday.

Softball is 1-2 after weekend losses to St. Michael’s College (12-0) and UNH (8-0). SMCC beat Central Maine CC, 4-1, in its opener behind a strong pitching effort from Emily Bard.

The golf team took part in the Maine Intercollegiate Championships in Cumberland and came in eighth.
