Umpiring certification classes offered

The Western Maine Baseball Umpires Association is holding baseball umpire certification classes. WMBUA provides baseball umpires for schools and leagues above the Little League level in Cumberland and York counties. Classes run for five consecutive Sunday evenings beginning Feb. 10, 2013. Scarborough FH standout honored

Scarborough field hockey standout Karli-An Gilbert was one of six players from Maine recently named to the Northern New England Region all-star team by the National Field Hockey Coaches’ Association. Gilbert was also a league all-star and was named to the All-State team.

SMCC men suffer first conference loss

The Southern Maine Community College men’s basketball team dropped a conference game for the first time Saturday when it lost at home to Vermont Tech, 84-71. Tyheem Simon led the Seawolves with 16 points. Emmanuel Donalson added 10 points. SMCC (9-3 overall, 5-1 in the Yankee Small College Conference) was at rival Central Maine CC Wednesday and hosts Eastern Maine CC Saturday at 2 p.m. The women’s team improved to 8-1 (4-0 in the conference) with a 65-61 win over Vermont Tech Saturday. Rogetta Donalson had 11 points, while Esther Palmieri added seven points and nine rebounds. After going to CMCC Wednesday, SMCC hosts EMCC Saturday at noon.
