SMCC teams ousted in conference tournament

The 2012-13 season came to a close for the Southern Maine Community College basketball teams last weekend at the Yankee Small College Conference tournament. The women opened with a 66-56 win over Vermont Tech (Nyalieb Deng had 20 points and 16 rebounds), but were ousted by eventual champion Central Maine CC, 81-33 (Jaimi Poland had a team-high nine points). The Seawolves finished the season 17-9 overall and 11-5 in conference. The SMCC men got by St. Joe’s of Vermont in their first test, 61-53, as Emmanuel Donalson had 20 points, but the Seawolves then lost to New Hampshire Technical Institute, 81-73, despite former Deering High star Jon Amabile’s 17 points. SMCC wound up 20-11 overall (13-6 in conference).
