SOUTH PORTLAND — City Manager Jim Gailey was named Linc Stackpole Manager of the Year on Aug. 13 by the Maine Town and City Manager’s Association.
The award, named for the late Machias town manager, is given annually to a manager who demonstrates “professionalism, integrity, leadership, and the confidence and respect of the recipient’s peers,” according to a press release from the city.
Gailey has worked for the city since he was a teenager, starting in the Parks Department. Since then, he worked in the city’s Public Works, Finance, and Planning and Development departments, before becoming assistant city manager and, in 2007, city manager.
Gailey is the first South Portland manager to receive the award.
