South Portland residents Cadence Kessler, 4, and mother Jessica Kessler join in the skating party Friday night, Feb. 6, at Mill Creek Park in South Portland. The activity was just one of several events Friday and Saturday during South Portland’s second annual WinterFest, organized by the city and the Rotary Club of South Portland-Cape Elizabeth. The festivities were delayed from Jan. 30-31, when a snowstorm got in the way.

Wesley Hartley, an employee at Verbena on Ocean Street in South Portland, waves to passing cars from within his Frosty the Snowman costume Friday during the second annual WinterFest. Several businesses in Knightville offered free products and promotions during a street festival and luminary walk preceding the evening’s events at Mill Creek Park.

James Whelan, an employee of Saco & Biddeford Savings Institution, roasts a marshmallow for 6-year-old Oliver Hernandez of Falmouth at WinterFest in South Portland. The bank has served s’mores at both WinterFests; last year, the group served nearly 200, Whelan said.
