SOUTH PORTLAND — State Rep. Kevin Battle, a two-term Republican from House District 33, last week announced he has left the party to become an independent.
Battle was elected to a second term in November over South Portland City Councilor Brad Fox, a Democrat.
During the campaign, Battle described himself as a “middle-of-the-road” Republican. He also criticized Republican Gov. Paul LePage for behavior Battle said was “unprofessional.”
