SOUTH PORTLAND — The Police Department will host a community forum on mental health and law enforcement Feb. 27.

The forum is scheduled for 6-7:30 p.m. at the Community Center, according to a department press release.

Residents are encouraged to come with questions and comments, and to learn about police and crisis response related to mental health. The forum will also provide information on protective custody and the training police officers receive when helping a family deal with a mental health crisis.

The department recently created a behavioral health liaison position and this meeting is also an opportunity for the community to learn about the liaison, and how the office will work with law enforcement and other organizations.

Representatives from Family Hope and The Opportunity Alliance’s Cumberland County Crisis Response team will also participate.
