SOUTH PORTLAND — A man and woman have been identified as “people of interest” in an investigation into a reported theft of cash from an artist Saturday at Art in the Park.

The police report was filed with the Police Department around 4:15 p.m. Aug. 13, after the 37th annual art show and sale in Mill Creek Park, Lt. Frank Clark said Monday morning.

Clark would not disclose how much money was believed to have been stolen, or identify the victim.

Photographs of the two people of interest, taken for the The Forecaster by freelance photographer Diane Hudson, were posted on the Police Department’s Facebook page Saturday. Police said members of the public helped identify the pair, whose names were not released.

Art in the Park, which features more than 100 artists, sculptors and photographers from throughout the region, is a day-long event that attracts thousands of visitors. The show is accompanied by live music and food vendors, and includes activities for children.
