South Portland Mayor Tom Blake gets instructions Monday from Steve Linnell of the Greater Portland Council of Governments on operating a Nissan Leaf electric car loaned to the city by Maine Clean Communities through a grant from Central Maine Power. Economic Development Director Jon Jennings said the electric car, which will be used by staff, is the first step to determine the feasibility of replacing the municipal non-emergency vehicle fleet with electric vehicles. Jennings also said he will complete a grant application this week for a CMP program that will pay up to $15,000 for the lease or purchase of an electric vehicle.
