SOUTH PORTLAND — A 28-year-old South Portland man was sentenced Wednesday to 16 months in prison and three years of supervised release after being found guilty of possession of a stolen firearm last fall.
According to a press release from U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty, a U.S. District Court jury found Bahman Habibi knowingly concealed a Glock pistol in his basement after the firearm was stolen from a Cumberland County sheriff’s detective. The firearm was later used by Joseph Morrill to rob Cumberland Farms on Cottage Road and TD Bank on Market Street. Morrill pleaded guilty to both crimes last August.
On June 14, 2013, a federal search warrant on Habibi’s residence recovered the pistol, and investigations concluded that Habibi knew it was stolen.
The South Portland Police Department and the FBI conducted the investigation.
