SOUTH PORTLAND — A South Portland man died Monday, June 30, in an apparent suicide at a Memory Lane home.

Police responded at 10:44 a.m. to a report by a family member that the 62-year-old man had barricaded himself inside the home’s garage and was threatening to kill himself with a gun, Lt. Frank Clark said on Tuesday.

After surrounding the house, police heard a single gunshot and attempted to communicate with the man. When there was no response, a Special Reaction Team entered the garage and confirmed at 12:45 p.m. that the man was dead.

Police did not release the name of the man or additional details.
