SOUTH PORTLAND — Up to $2,000 in scholarships are available in the second annual Laurie Carr Scholarship program established by the South Portland Housing Authority.

The program is open to South Public Housing Authority residents, or holders of Housing Choice Vouchers under authority jurisdiction, who are graduating high school seniors, have the equivalent of a high school diploma, or are currently attending or plan to attend a certification, license, or degree earning program.

The program is named in honor of authority board member Laurie Carr, a former SPHA resident who graduated from college in 2011 and bought a private home last year.

The deadline to apply is May 13. Applications can be picked up at the SPHA office at 100 Waterman Drive or by request to: info@spha.net.
