SOUTH PORTLAND — Arthur L. Handman, a former transportation director in the Hartford, Conn., area, will be the new city transportation director, City Manager Jim Gailey announced.

“I am looking forward to continuing the excellent service established by (current director Tom Meyers) and his staff,” Handman said Wednesday.

His top priorty will be overseeing construction of the new Mill Creek transit hub, and Handman added he will be evaluating if merging city bus services with regional operations will be beneficial.

Meyers is retiring after more than 12 years as transportation director.
