SOUTH PORTLAND — The latest versions of Police Department Cop Collectible trading cards were distributed this week at some of the city’s elementary schools.

Officers have been pictured on the trading cards since 1993 as a way to “initiate positive interactions and share safety tips with the city’s youth,” Lt. Frank Clark said in a May 3 press release.

“The department has found the Cop Card program to be an extremely effective method of making our officers more approachable, increasing the frequency of our positive contacts with the young and sometimes the not so young members of the community,” Clark said.

The cards include everyone from Chief Ed Googins to the department’s police dogs.
