SOUTH PORTLAND — City Councilor Brad Fox is recovering from quadruple bypass surgery after a heart attack last week.

Fox had surgery Dec. 13 and said in a text message Wednesday that he was “really doing well,” after being admitted to Maine Medical Center in Portland on Dec. 7.

Fox, 69, said he started having chest pains a few weeks ago and made an appointment with a cardiologist for next week. But he insisted on seeing his doctor sooner, and was subsequently sent to the emergency room Dec. 7.

The first-term councilor said he expects to remain in the hospital at least through the end of the week, and said Thursday morning he won’t return to his seat on the council until January “at the earliest.”
