SOUTH PORTLAND — City Councilor Brad Fox had a minor heart attack Wednesday and will undergo bypass surgery next week.

Fox was admitted to Maine Medical Center in Portland on Wednesday.

In a text message on Thursday morning Fox said he was feeling “good now that I’m on blood thinners and don’t have the angina.”

“It’s a very good thing I had the pain and got in here … I could have had a major heart attack,” he said.

Fox said he started having pain a few weeks ago and made an appointment with a cardiologist for next week. He insisted on seeing his doctor sooner, underwent a blood test and was subsequently sent to the emergency room on Wednesday evening.
