SOUTH PORTLAND — The South Portland Housing Authority’s newest residential building, Ridgeland Gardens, is open and fully occupied.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held on July 25 at the 44-unit building for residents 55 and older, and disabled individuals. Ridgeland Gardens is next to to the 80-unit Ridgeland Estates. Construction began in 2014.

The monthly cost of rent is $860 per month, which includes utilities, laundry, a fitness room, Wi-Fi and community gardens, according to a July 27 press release. 

The South Portland Housing Authority manages 685 housing units and subsidizes nearly 400 vouchers for elderly and disabled residents, and families.
