TOPSHAM — Sonny Talbert F. Williams, 77, died Feb. 9 at the Mid Coast Hospital.

On Nov. 22, 1932, he was born in Bath, a son of William and Ruth Rogerson Williams, and attended Bath schools. 

After serving in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, he was employed as a truck driver for Sewall & Sons in Brunswick.

For 27 years, he worked for the Topsham Police Department, working his way from patrolman to detective before retiring in 1996.

On July 27, 1986, he married Pauline Marie Thiboutot.

After retiring from the police department, he worked security at the Bowdoin Mill until he became ill.

A dedicated foster parent, he fostered over 33 children throughout his life.

In his free time he enjoyed fishing, lobstering and watching wildlife around his home. 

He was a member of the Topsham American Legion Post and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was predeceased by a sister, Jodi Wright of Gloucester, Mass., in 2009.

Surviving are his wife Pauline of Topsham; son Richard Williams, his wife Mary and their daughter Brandi, all of Silverhill, Ala.; three stepsons, William Basinet and his wife Laurie of Westbrook, Roger Basinet of Brunswick and Danny Basinet of Topsham; two foster sons, Jimmy Bowmen of Robertsdale, Ala., and William Contreras and his wife Dottie of Topsham; three brothers, Alan Williams and his wife Dot of Harpswell, Larry Douglas and his wife Nancy of Auburn and Carl Douglas and his wife Mildred of Hebron and two sisters, Beatrice Beleau of Lebanon, N.H., and Janice Bolduc of Sabattus; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Memorial services were previously held.

Arrangements are by Stetson’s Funeral Home, 12 Federal St., Brunswick.
