YARMOUTH — Solveig Hennings, 95, died on Dec. 12 at Coastal Manor.

Born on April 22, 1916, the daughter of Hans Heistad and Selma Togersen Heistad, she grew up in Rockport and graduated from Rockport High School. She later attended the University of Maine at Orono and received a bachelors and masters degree from the University of Maine in Portland.

Hennings was a dedicated teacher, working in Falmouth elementary schools for 18 years. She loved gardening, music, painting and people. She was a member of the State Street Congregational Church in Portland for many years.

In 1936 she married John Porter Hennings, and the couple moved to Sharon, Pa. in 1938, returning to Maine in 1950, establishing their home in Falmouth.

She was predeceased by her husband in 1995 and by her son, Peter C. Hennings, and her grandson, Jeffrey J. Knight. She is survived by a son John H. Hennings of Huntsville, Ala.; daughter Nancy E. Day of Santa Rosa, Calif.; grandson Gregory C. Knight of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; and a daughter-in-law Susan Jorgenson Hennings of Olney, Md.
