Matt Richards, now in his 11th season as the head men’s basketball coach and athletic director at Southern Maine Community College, celebrates with his wife, Maureen, and daughters, Ally and Emily, after reaching a couple of milestones in Wednesday’s 114-89 home win over U. Maine-Augusta. Not only was it Richards’ 200th victory with the program, but it also put him atop the school record books, giving him one more win than John Dakin. The Seawolves improved to 16-5 (10-1 in Yankee Small College Conference) play.
“I’ve been very fortunate to be surrounded by outstanding student-athletes, hardworking assistant coaches and a tremendously supportive administration during my time,” said Richards, now 200-125 in his tenure. “These factors have played an integral part in the success we’ve had over the years. SMCC and Seawolves basketball are very special to me and I’m happy to share this achievement with everybody who’s helped make it possible.”
