PORTLAND — “Shred Fest 2016,” co-sponsored by AARP Maine and the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, will take place noon-4 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at the CCSO, 30 County Way.

The public is invited to bring personal financial records and expired or unused medications for shredding and proper disposal.

According to the Federal Trade Commission, identity theft complaints increased 47 percent nationwide in 2015, with more than 1,500 reported in Maine. Shred Fest offers the opportunity to dispose of records and documents safely, and is one of 90 such events being held throughout the country this week.
