FREEPORT — Two national clothing makers are calling on local volunteers to help commemorate World Oceans Day with a shoreline cleanup this weekend.

Horny Toad and United By Blue are hosting the cleanup from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday on the shores surrounding Winslow Memorial Park. The companies will provide everything volunteers will need, including bagels and coffee, garbage bags, gloves, bug spray and sunscreen, said Leslie Hudson, outreach manager for Philadelphia-based United by Blue. Participants are encouraged to dress for the weather and wear waterproof shoes.

The event will include games and competitions, like guessing the total weight of trash that will be collected for the day. There’s also a prize for finding the “weirdest piece of trash.”

Winslow Memorial Park will waive its usual day-use fee for cleanup participants,  said Neil Lyman, the park manager.
