CAPE ELIZABETH — Bids to build the 2.2-mile Shore Road Path will be opened by Town Manager Michael McGovern on May 24 at 2 p.m.

Approved by town councilors in 2010, the path will run from Fort Williams Park to the intersection of Shore and Ocean House roads. The 5-foot-wide asphalt path will be built on the inland side of the road for use by pedestrians and bicyclists.

Bid specifications require contractors to finish construction within 120 days. Work will temporarily halt in early August to accommodate the TD Bank Beach to Beacon 10K.

McGovern estimated there is about $830,000 available for the project. The Maine Department of Transportation provided a $729,000 grant for the work and about $100,000 in private funding was raised.

McGovern said a date for construction to begin will be set after consulting with the successful bidder.
