BRUNSWICK — Shirley (Mosher) Moffitt, 85, died Jan. 31, at her home in Brunswick.

She was born June 24, 1930, to James Vinal and Geneva Maxine Hunnewell.

Moffitt graduated from Morse High School in 1948 and began working for her father at the Hunnewell IGA and post office in Woolwich. She eventually became a postal clerk and, in 1969, she officially assumed the responsibilities of postmaster, following in the footsteps of both her father and mother. Moffitt was employed for over 30 years in the postal service and retired in 1985.

She was a member of the Maine State Grange for more than 71 years, and was also a member of the Open Bible Baptist Church in Bath.

She was predeceased by her parents; a sister, Norma Scopino; and a brother, Steven Hunnewell.

Moffitt is survived by a sister, Carole Hunnewell, of Brunswick; three children, Darrell, of Garner, North Carolina; Lauri Bailey, of Woolwich, and David, of Munfordville, Kentucky; 22 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. The family is grateful for the staff of Sunnybrook, CHANS Hospice and Linda’s Home Healthcare.

A service was held at Open Bible Baptist Church on Feb. 4.
