    $2.1 million awarded
    to seven Maine companies


    GARDINER — The Maine Technology Institute has awarded a total of $2.1 million to seven Maine companies that are pioneering innovations in targeted technology areas.

    Local businesses to receive the awards include Pondera Pharmaceuticals, Inc, of Pownal, which received an award for $50,000 along with a $50,000 match in the sector of biotechnology.

    In the field of composite manufacturing, Harbor Technologies, LLC, of Brunswick was awarded $405,498 with a match of $556,664.

    Portland student plans March 13
    benefit for overseas orphans


    PORTLAND — Katie Cole, a senior at Casco Bay High School, has organized a benefit for two local aid organizations that support orphans in Romania, Cambodia and Sudan as part of her school's senior expedition project.

    The benefit will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, March 13 at the Maine Film Studio, 235 Presumpscot St., Portland, and will feature food, music and dance from Cambodia and Sudan as well as Romanian food and videos.
