Public meetings held with
Portland superintendent

PORTLAND — The Portland School Committee will host several meetings in April and May to introduce Portland’s new superintendent, Dr. James Morse, to the community.

The public is invited to attend any of the meetings, ask questions and share ideas. Morse will assume his new position in July.

Meetings will take place at the following times and places: 6 p.m. April 28, Lyman Moore Middle School; 6 p.m. May 8, Presumpscot Elementary School; 6 p.m. May 12, King Middle School; 6 p.m. May 21, Deering High School cafeteria.

PHS students earn honors
at leadership conference

PORTLAND — Portland High School students involved in Future Business Leaders of America won several awards at the organization’s recent state leadership conference.

Sean Dowling, Max Dismore and Max Morris won first place in business ethics. Morris was also awarded first place in marketing.

Second place winners included: global business, Dowling, Morris and Henry Cole; business law, Mary Moran; management decision making, Dismore, Lauren MacDougal and Courtney Rickett; cyber security, Nicholas Marcisso; and help desk, Marcisso.

Moran, MacDougal and Dismore won third place for entrepreneurship.

Meron Mekonen won an award for Web site development.

Michee Jean, was named the state vice president and Meron Mekonen was named secretary for Future Business Leaders of America next year.

Mata earns Youth
Service Award

PORTLAND — David Mata, a senior at Deering High School, earned the Youth Service Award from the Portland Rotary.

Mata, son of Herbert Mata and Maira Garcia of Portland was recognized for best reflecting the Rotary motto of “Service Above Self.”
