Scarborough senior baseball standout Chris Bernard was named the Maine Gatorade Player of the Year Friday. Bernard has led the Red Storm to a 9-4 record (and the No. 3 spot in the latest Western Class A Heal Points standings) with a 5-1 record on the mound and a .559 average at the plate. Bernard has allowed just two earned runs in 38 innings pitched (for an 0.37 ERA) and has struck out 51 hitters while walking only six. Offensively, he has nine doubles, four home runs and 19 RBI. Bernard will play for the University of Maine next year.
