SCARBOROUGH — A tradition continues at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 14, when students, staff and parents from Scarborough Middle School will host the 27th annual Ed Wimert Memorial Bike/Walk-a-thon for AIDS to raise money for the Frannie Peabody Center.

Organizers are hoping for at least 200 participants on a course from the Clambake Restaurant on Pine Point Road to the Ocean Park section of Old Orchard Beach. The bike ride is 20 miles; the walk is six miles.

Event-day registration will be begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Clambake. Registration is $5, with at least $25 in pledges. For more information, or to donate, visit peabodycenter.org.

Other event organizers include the Scarborough Police Department, Scarborough High School Student Council, Scarborough High School Key Club and Scarborough Explorers. The Portland-based Frannie Peabody Center was established to prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS and support those living with HIV and AIDS in Maine.
