SCARBOROUGH — An 18-year-old Scarborough High School student was arrested Tuesday, Sept. 23, for allegedly carrying a concealed weapon.

According to police, a bus driver was alerted by several students that Jonathan Germano was sharpening a knife while on the bus.

Police said a spring-loaded switchblade was found in Germano’s backpack after he was identified and taken from class. He was also found to be carrying a sheathed knife, tied to the outside of a boot and concealed under his pant leg.

Germano was arrested without incident on charges of carrying a concealed weapon and trafficking in dangerous knives.

In an incident letter addressed to parents and students, Principal David Creech wrote, “The student was taken into custody at approximately 9:00 a.m. without incident. Scarborough High School students and staff were in no danger and the arrest did not impact the functioning of the high school.”

The Police Department and School Superintendent’s office referred all inquiries to Creech, who was not available for comment in time for publication.
