Scarborough senior softball standout Alyssa Williamson was chosen last week as Maine’s Gatorade softball Player of the Year. The award recognizes athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field. Williamson, a standout pitcher and slugging first baseman, hit .468 with five home runs and 28 RBI through the Red Storm’s first 14 games and has not struck out since her sophomore year. On the mound, she’s 6-0 with a 1.32 earned run average with 63 strikeouts in 47.2 innings pitched. Williamson has a 92.3 average in the classroom, volunteers on behalf of Special Olympics, Ruth’s Reusable Resources and as a youth softball coach. Williamson, who is also one of six finalists for Miss Maine Softball, will attend and play softball at Drexel University in Philadelphia, Penn.
