SCARBOROUGH — The man who died last week after falling about 30 feet from an Interstate 295 connector overpass was identified Monday as 52-year-old Phillip Faulkner of West Enfield.

Faulkner fell from the overpass sometime between 2 and 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 17, according to police reports. He was struck by a car on Route 1, and died at Maine Medical Center in Portland around 10 p.m.

Faulkner’s sister, Denise Scales, said her brother had been staying at her home in Scarborough, along with their mother. Scales said Faulkner left for a walk shortly before 2 p.m.

Police Sgt. Rick Rouse said it was still unknown if Faulkner intentionally jumped from the overpass or simply fell. He said police are awaiting a report from the state medical examiner before concluding whether the death was a suicide.
