SCARBOROUGH — The Police Department suspended Operation Hope until 7 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 1.

In a Facebook post on Monday, Nov. 23, the department cited maximum capacity at most of its partner treatment facilities and a shortage of volunteers as primary reasons for suspending the program, which has helped put more than 50 individuals with heroin addition into treatment facilities across the country since Oct. 1.

Eight individuals sought treatment through the program on Monday, Nov. 23, the department said, but only three were able to be placed due to lack of space.

“In addition, unscheduled air travel will become extremely difficult as people travel to join friends and loved ones over this holiday week, and many of our volunteers are not available,” the department said.
