SCARBOROUGH — The Scarborough Public Library, the Scarborough Historical Society and Scarborough Middle School will collaborate for a year-long exploration of the town’s Civil War history, with events to be announced in the coming weeks.

According to a press release, the historical society has identified more than 230 Scarborough men who served in the Civil War.

The three organizations will build a digital exhibit of the town’s history in the conflict, to be hosted on the Maine Historical Society’s Maine Memory Network website. They will also organize programs throughout the year with Civil War themes.

The exploration is made possibly by a grant program from the National Endowment for the Humanities for collaborative study of local Civil War histories. Scarborough received the funding from the the Maine Historical Society and Maine Humanities Council.
