PORTLAND — A man who died Wednesday in an apparent diving accident in Portland Harbor has been identified as Dennis McGrath of Scarborough.

McGrath, 56, died while diving under a fishing boat docked at the Portland Fish Pier, 300 Commercial St., according to a Portland Police Department press release Thursday morning.

McGrath, a commercial diver, was “removing tangled line from the prop and shaft at the time of his death,” according to police.

McGrath’s death is still under investigation by police and the state Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, but it does not appear suspicious, according to the press release.
