Scarborough senior Anthony Pizzella, joined by his parents, Tony and Nadine, teammates Nathan Mars and Zach Reed, Red Storm coach Lance Johnson and Scarborough offensive line coach Jon Bastian, signs his National Letter of Intent Thursday afternoon to attend at play football at Franklin Pierce University in Rindge, New Hampshire. Pizzella, a two-year lineman, who helped the Red Storm win the 2017 Class A state title, will be part of Franklin Pierce’s first year at the Division II level.
“It’s a very exciting day,” said Pizzella, who plans to study physical therapy. “I’m pumped to be able to continue to play. Franklin Pierce is a small school and I think I’ll be able to make my mark. They’re looking for guys with size and strength. The coaches here have made me into the football player and the man I am today.”
“Anthony is 6-4 and weighs 270 and he has room on his frame to put on more weight,” said Johnson. “He’s a hard worker and a bright kid. He’ll do what they ask him to. I think his best football is ahead of him. We’ve won 18 games the past two years and he’s been on the field for all of them.”
Pizzella isn’t the only Scarborough player planning to compete in college. Reed and former quarterback Zoltan Panyi will play at the University of Maine in Orono.
