SCARBOROUGH — Funding to buy land off Payne Road is almost fully in hand, according to Scarborough Land Trust Executive Director Kathy Mills.

Mills said the trust is making a final push to raise about $56,000 to complete the purchase of Warren Woods. The 160-acre parcel off Payne Road has frontage on the Nonesuch River, which flows into Scarborough Marsh.

The total cost for acquisition and stewardship costs is about $365,000, Mills said in a news release. The land, currently owned Harvey Warren, will cost $285,000. Warren’s late wife, Elaine Stimson Warren, was a director and treasurer for the land trust.

Much of the purchase price is covered by a nearly $229,000 grant from the Scarborough Land Bond fund. In July the trust began a fundraising campaign for the remaining $136,000. With about $80,000 already contributed, trust President Paul Austin said he hopes the $56,000 can be raised by Nov. 1.
