SCARBOROUGH — The Scarborough Kiwanis Club has been awarded a $1,000 grant from the Wal-Mart Foundation to support a school vacation food backpack program.

The backpack program provides boxes of food for children to take home at school vacation time. Boxes are sent home four times a year: before winter break, February and April vacations, and summer vacations.

The Kiwanis Club is adding books to each package, so each participating child will also receive four books during the school year.
