Scarborough senior Maddie York, joined by her parents, Andy and Michelle, and her younger sister, Kayleigh, signs her National Letter of Intent Wednesday, Nov. 16 to attend and play lacrosse at Assumption College in Worcester, Massachusetts. York suffered an ACL injury prior to her junior season, but still had interest from several colleges. York said that Assumption was at the top of her list.

“I was looking at four schools,” said York, a defender, who plans to study education. “Assumption had filled up all their spots, but then a girl dropped out. They offered it to me and I knew that was where I wanted to be. It’s a great environment and I love the school.”

York, who also played field hockey and skied at Scarborough and has been involved with “Storm for a Cure,” raising awareness and funds for cancer research, said that her signing was the happy culmination of a challenging journey.

“It’s an exciting day,” York said. “It’s been a long road to get here. I’m not still full strength, but hopefully by January, I’ll be back on the field. I’m moving in the right direction. I’m excited for my senior season.”
