SCARBOROUGH — The town and Garbage to Garden have established three free compost drop-off sites. The locations are Wal-Mart, 500 Gallery Boulevard; the Maine Veterans Home, 290 U.S. Route 1, and Pine Tree Waste, 87 Pleasant Hill Road.
Scarborough is the ninth town in southern Maine to be provided composting service by Garbage to Garden, which also provides subscription-based curbside composting in South Portland, Cape Elizabeth, Westbrook, Portland, Yarmouth, Falmouth and Cumberland. Founded in 2012, the company diverts up to 10 tons of organic material a day.
See garbagetogarden.org or call 332-0277 for more information, including what types of food waste are compostable.
