SCARBOROUGH — Challengers will face incumbents in the Town Council and Board of Education elections this fall.

The deadline for returning nomination papers was the close of business Wednesday. Eleven candidates for seven elected positions filed papers, with four candidates on the ballot for two council seats and five candidates running for three School Board spots. No one is running against the two incumbents for the Scarborough Sanitary District.

Michael Hoglund Jr., of 175 Beech Ridge Road, and Jessica Holbrook, of 137 Beech Ridge Road, declared their candidacies for Town Council. They will face incumbent Councilors Carol Rancourt, of 23 Black Point Road, who is finishing her second consecutive term, and Richard Sullivan, of 1 Sullivan Farm Road, who is completing his first term on the council. Council term lengths are three years; councilors may serve up to three consecutive terms.

Two challengers will take on three incumbents for the School Board. Jacquelyn Perry, of 215 Black Point Road; Annalee Rosenblatt, of 18 Tall Pines Road, and Jane Wiseman, of 61 Ocean Ave., are all seeking re-election. Perry, who filled the remainder of the term of a vacated seat, is still eligible to serve for three consecutive terms; Rosenblatt and Wiseman are each eligible to serve two more consecutive terms.

The three will be challenged by Robert Mitchell, of 39 Willowdale Road, and James Shields, of 6 Bridle Court. Mitchell has previous experience on the board; none of the other challengers for Town Council or School Board have served as elected officials in Scarborough, Town Clerk Tody Justice said.

Barring write-in candidates, the Scarborough Sanitary District race is uncontested, with incumbents Benedetto Viola, of 7 Militia Lane, and Nicola Rico, of 11 Hawthorne Circle, the only candidates. There are no term limits for Sanitary District trustees.

Election Day is Tuesday, Nov. 3.
