SCARBOROUGH — The Scarborough Community Chamber of Commerce said it supports legislation that would send the prospect of slot machines at Scarborough Downs to a third town referendum.

The support came in the wake of the state Senate indefinitely postponing action on LD 1111, a bill that would allow slot machines at harness racing tracks. The bill would bypass a statewide vote.

In a March 21 statement, the SCCC said it supports “allowing towns and cities to decide for themselves about proposed casino developments.” They added that, should the bill become a law, they would then consider taking a position for or against slot machines at Scarborough Downs.
