SCARBOROUGH — Work on a new home for Casa, a long-time intermediate-care provider for individuals with developmental disabilities, will begin Friday with a 1 p.m. groundbreaking at 148 Gorham Road.
Funded with a $6.2 million U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Community Facility Direct Loan, the expanded and updated 16,000-square-foot residential facility with 16 beds will be constructed next to the current facility.
The existing 9,000-square-foot facility was built in 1982 on about six acres near the Nonesuch River. It will be demolished when the new building is opened.
Maine Department of Health and Human Services Commissioner Mary Mayhew, USDA Rural Development State Director Virginia Manuel and Casa Executive Director Anne Walp are among those expected at the ceremony.
