A man was so upset that Bank of America on Gorham Road would not cash his check that he stole a bag of its rock salt on his way out the door. According to police, the bank has chosen not to press charges but the man is banned from returning.

An employee of Sunoco Self-Serve on Route 1 called police to report a case of threatening. A customer who had accused Sunoco of supplying him with bad gas that ruined his vehicle threatened to damage the station by scattering nails in the parking lot and putting water in the tanks.

Police nab alleged purse-snatcher
2/27 at 9 p.m.
Police responded to a call from a 33-year-old woman who said she had been robbed in the parking lot of a Broadway business. The victim said the man forcibly took her pocket book as she was getting into her car. Following leads that emerged in the ensuing days, Sgt. Frank Stepnick arrested Joshua Dobson, 27, of Portland, for robbery. Most of the stolen items were recovered.
Birthday bash
2/28 at 5:19 p.m.
Two people arrived at Central Station to report they had been assaulted during a birthday party on Barnstable Road. Both victims told police that an argument had broken out with one of the attendees, resulting in a physical confrontation. Raymond Bailey, 27, was summonsed for assault.
High speed chance
3/2 at 4:50 p.m. Officer Scott Corbett was reportedly led on a high speed chase when he tried to pull over a vehicle with an expired registration. When Corbett activated his lights and siren, the vehicle did not stop and reportedly began driving at a higher rate of speed. A pursuit ensued on Broadway, then to Westbrook Street and then north on Interstate 295 before coming to a conclusion on Congress Street in Portland. A search of the vehicle produced a small amount of suspected marijuana and drug equipment. Christopher Arich, 23, was arrested on charges of sale and use of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana, driving to endanger, eluding a police officer, and operating an unregistered motor vehicle.
Temper tantrum leads to charges

Police responded to a call from a mother who reported that her 14-year-old son, who was on probation, became angry and allegedly threatened her when she wouldn’t allow him attend an activity in Portland. The boy was arrested for domestic violence terrorizing and violation of probation. He was taken to the Long Creek Youth Development Center.

3/6 at 4:40 p.m. William Gillian, Jr., 68, of Long Point Lane, was arrested by Officer Andrew Steindl on a charge of operating under the influence.
3/6 at 11 p.m. Darryl Woodward, 45, of Portland Road, Saco, was arrested by Officer Mark Dorval on a charge of operating under the influence.

Snowed in
3/2 A Mitchell Road resident met with police to discuss a harassment complaint: someone had plowed snow into the plaintiff’s driveway. A suspect was identified, contacted by the officer, and advised to cease the harrassment.
No passing
3/4 Police met with a Cape Elizabeth school bus driver regarding a vehicle that had passed his bus while students were getting off. The bus driver obtained a licence plate number, and police made contact with the car’s driver. The case will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office for review.
