FREEPORT — Sarah Hayden Dorsey, 48, died June 1 surrounded by her loving family after a long battle with cancer.  

Born in Columbus, Ohio, on July 21, 1961, a daughter of Jennifer and Malcolm Hayden, she spent her childhood in Bexley, Ohio.

After graduating in 1979 from Gould Academy in Bethel, she attended The Portland School of Art and The University of Southern Maine, where she developed her lifelong passion for the arts.  

Over the years, she spent many summers on her beloved Seavey Island, where she enjoyed reading and photography.  

Every fall she would spend her Saturdays rooting for the Ohio State Buckeyes football team. She also enjoyed spending time tracing her family history.

She is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, George “Sid” Dorsey; her daughter, Hannah Dorsey, and her son Ian Dorsey and his wife Kelly; her brother, Chris Hayden, and her sister, Elizabeth Keene; her mother, Jennifer Hayden; and Tyler Green, whom she regarded as a second son.

A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, June 13 at 2 p.m. at the Royal River Grillhouse, 106 Lafayette St., Yarmouth.
