TOPSHAM — Sara McCrum Porter, 84, died Dec. 24 at Cadigan Lodge, Topsham.

She was born on Feb. 9, 1929, in Charleston, W.Va., the daughter of Arlington Bliss McCrum and Madeline Broderick McCrum. She graduated from Hathaway Brown School in Shaker Heights, Ohio, and later attended Smith College, in Northhampton, Mass. She graduated from Hollins University, Roanoke, Va.

In 1955, she married Richard Sterling Porter of Wellesley Hills, Mass. The couple lived in Charlottesville, Va., Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and Preville and Westmount, Quebec, before retiring to Brunswick in 1988. They moved to Topsham in 2007.

She is survived by her husband, Richard, of Topsham; two sons, Edwin Ross Porter and wife Karon Salch, and John Sterling Porter; grandson, Samuel John Porter, of Brunswick; brother, Arlington Bliss McCrum Jr. and wife Marcia; niece and goddaughter, Hanna Henderson; and numerous other nieces and nephews.

Memorial visitation was held Dec. 30 at Brackett Funeral Home in Brunswick. Her cremains will be scattered in Casco Bay. A place of remembrance will be created in the family lot in Newton Cemetery, Newton, Mass.
